Satu hari menjelang pembukaan, persaingan peserta pada Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) XX Papua berlanjut di empat klaster pada Jumat, 1 Oktober 2021.
Seperti dilansir Antara, beberapa di antaranya bersaing memperebutkan medali emas, seperti dayung, sepatu roda, dan taekwondo di klaster Kota Jayapura.
Kemudian di klaster Kabupaten Jayapura, senam artistik bakal debut dengan babak penyisihan hingga final atau perebutan medali.
Di klaster Kabupaten Mimika, Judo dan Tebing pun bakal menggelar partai final untuk sejumlah nomor pertandingan.
Terakhir di klaster Kabupaten Merauke, cabang olahraga wushu juga bakal menggelar pertandingan perebutan medali.
Selain itu, sejumlah persaingan juga akan terjadi dalam sejumlah cabang olahraga seperti voli indoor, polo air, panahan, sepak bola, dan sepak takraw.
